Inspiration: Brooches

One vintage accessory that has fallen out of fashion is brooches! I have several in my collection but I never know how to wear them. Maybe these great pins will inspire me to wear mine!

Telephone!

I love this fur dog with pearl collar!

Early plastic brooches are so cute! Non-bakelite pieces are often very affordable too.

I also love matching sets like these flower pieces with pink rhinestone centers.
This pretty brooch would look great with so many colors!

I love the tassels! :D

Do you wear brooches? What's your favorite piece?

  1. I tend towards the 1950s metal flowers and metal abstract sprays. Throughout spring and fall I wear blazers as outerwear with one of my brooches on the lapel. Adds a little quirk methinks.

  2. I love those pink flowers. They remind me of my Aunt Hazel.

  3. I adore brooches! I wear one most days, they give an instant vintage pop to any outfit. Lately I've started buying late 50s/early 60s diamante sets on Etsy; you can get a matching brooch and earrings for very little and they feel so chic to wear. I am most envious of your little flowers set; you must wear it and do an outfit post. It's just crying to go with a 50s-style angora sweater!

  4. I love brooches! I started collecting them a few years ago because I realized I could wear them while dancing and not have to worry about them getting tangled up. (Sometimes I even leave my wedding ring at home because it can get in the way, but I've never had a problem with brooches!) My favorites are my WWII sweetheart pieces, I've featured a couple on my blog -

  5. I love brooches! I started collecting them a couple of years ago and have all types in my collection. Most have lots of bling but the ones I love and wear the most are the plastic or more plain ones.

  6. These are so marvelous! After I realized last year that I could wear brooches despite my pesky nickel allergy (so long as I put a buffer of at least a couple of layers of fabric between my skin and the metal in the brooch (which often contains nickel), I quickly began collecting costume jewelry brooches (both vintage and vintage appropriate ones) and now tend to wear a brooch more days than not. Love the examples you highlighted in this fun post - especially the pink bow with the dangling white leaves.

  7. I do have a bunch of brooches that I got from my grandmother and mother, but most of them aren't very old at all, maybe just from the 80s. However, they're still cute! My favorite is a gold one that looks like a woman sitting in front of a vanity putting her make up on (viewed from the back). I remember being little and looking in her jewelry box at the brooch and trying to figure out the angle I could look into the little vanity mirror to see the woman's face! It belonged to my grandmother, and since she passed away a while ago it means even more!
I would love to get older ones though, like the plastic and novelty kind. They're so, so cute!
