The lipstick came packaged in this cute little bag. I'm a sucker for cute packaging! The lipstick came in a black tube with a little apple on top. It's nice but nothing super special. Their website is clean and easy to navigate. One thing I really loved is that they showed each shade on three different models with different skin tones.
I really wanted to put these lipsticks to the test so I set out to wear them every day for a week. I work in a chemistry lab where some times I do research and some times I teach so I'm talking a lot but I can't reapply my makeup to prevent my makeup getting contaminated by whatever I'm working with in the lab. If I'm going to wear lipstick, it needs to be tough and not leave those icky red rings!
I asked to try their Strawberry Lips shade. I wanted something that would give me a pop of color but that would be not so loud that I couldn't wear it to work. And this shade certainly fits the bill! The website describes it as a brown-kissed red but on me it looks like more of a mauve-red. I really love this shade! It blends really well with my natural lip color.
I wore the Strawberry Lips color on days I was working. I was immediately impressed by the consistency of the product. It felt amazing on my lips! Not dry or sticky at all. It lasted ok but it faded really nicely so I didn't have to walk around with awkward remnants of lipstick on for the rest of class.
They also sent me a tube of the Red! shade to try. It's a really nice bright true red. One thing I noticed about these lipsticks is that they blend really well with whatever other colors you wear on your lips. So without liner, the Red! looks pinker on my lips because they are naturally a rather pink shade. With red lip liner, it stays much more the color in the tube. I think this is a really cool feature because you can tailor the shade to your preference by using other lip products with it.
The Red! color I wore on the weekend. It lasted about as long as I'd expect a red lipstick to last. Red lipsticks are notoriously high maintenance. It didn't bleed even without lip liner which is great. I did need to reapply after eating but I've not yet found a red lipstick that can make it through a meal unscathed.
I noticed something rather odd about halfway through the week-my lips felt amazing and my winter chapped lips were gone! My lips chap very easily even when I'm good about using chapstick. My lips have been in fabulous condition since I started using the Red Apple lipsticks. Aside from keeping all sorts of yucky things out of their products, Red Apple adds vitamin E to their lipsticks and it works!
Even though my Red Apple week is over, I keep reaching for these two colors! I know there will be more Red Apple lipsticks in my future! And there could be some in yours!
Red Apple sent me two tubes of Strawberry Lips so that means one for one of you!
