Midcentury Modern

For day 2 of the bridal expo, I decided to go vintage! And added some layers because they had the ac waaaayyyyy up.

Tada! Cherry circle skirt, new sweater from Banana Republic and vintage hat!

I love vintage hats!

I'm so in love with this new sweater I scored super cheap at Banana Republic.

We had a great day and I loved getting to wear my circle skirt.

Christmas Part 1

Just like for Thanksgiving, Christmas is a time of many, many, many visits to friends and family. On the bright side, that means more outfits! I sewed up this matching skirt and bolero for my husband's grandparents' big Xmas get together.

Polka dots! Thanks for all of you who helped out with my Christmas dress conundrum! This is the outcome. I got loads of compliments on it!

I self drafted a circle skirt and left it quite long. I also had enough leftover polka dot fabric to make a bolero!

I used the bolero from Wearing History's Chic Ahoy pattern. It's a great little bolero pattern. I did shorten it about 2" in the back because I wanted more of a cropped look. I may start making cute little matching boleros for all of my circle skirts now!

And, of course, I couldn't help but wear my black and white polka dot shoes with red accents even if the shades of red didn't quite match. Little jingle bell earrings with red bows finished the look. Love this outfit!

Wool hat and fuzzy boots

I got to wear a new (to me) hat with my most favorite circle skirt!

A pretty pearl collar and cardigan finished up the look.

I also wore these boots with faux fur. My church is in a riding arena and there is no central heating so I never really know what temperature it's going to be in there. It was supposed to be warm-ish so I wore these boots to help keep my legs warm.

Oh, I love my circle skirt!

The hat was a gift from my mother-in-law (who is awesome!). It had a green feather at one point in time but it was broken off near the base so I removed it. I haven't found a suitable replacement that I like the look of. I think I may just not have the eye for feathers. : /

Urban Nights

A couple of weeks ago, my husband and I and two of our friends went out to a local event called Urban Nights. Several areas downtown have activities going on like musicians and performers and a lot of the local shops are open late. They have this event a couple of times a year and it's always fun.

I wore my embroidered circle skirt and my new sweater. Yay a finished sweater that fits!

The pattern is from a Stitch in Time Vol. 2 and is called Ribbon Threaded Jumper. So cute! It's knit from a pale green acrylic yarn from a baby line so it's nice and soft!

Bow! The Ravelry page for this project is here. I started it way back in April but I finally finished it.

A cute sewing shop had their grand opening that evening. It was very cute!

The local vintage store was open and packed!

There was a new hat shop! They were mostly modern but there were a few vintage inspired lovelies.

And I couldn't resist a used book store.

I loved this singer's style! So cute and retro. That night I really wanted to go and chop my bangs off again but I resisted.

Fire spinners! :D

All in all, it was a fun night!

It's graduation party season!

It's graduation party season and Saturday I had two in one night. I went comfy casual while I was thrifting but just couldn't resist the chance to dress up for evening.

Outfit:
Sweater: The Limited
Skirt: me-made
Shoes: Payless
Necklace: Charming Charlie
Earrings: Forever 21
Hat: Feathers Vintage Clothing

Oh, my goodness! I adore this hat! I knew it was cute when I spotted it in the store but it's so much fun to wear! It's days like this that make me really love my bangs.

I think I need to add more navy to my wardrobe so I can rock this hat all summer!

I had a great hair day too! This is my THIRD day on the same pin curl set! This just goes to show that it's all about using the right products. More info on this to come later this week.

Usually, I have a hard time mixing neutrals. It just never feels right, but this combo worked. I think the pop of red helped. It would have been better with a red belt or purse or something but it's good. :)

Wicked!

Sorry for the radio silence! The husband and I had tickets to see Wicked Friday night and I, being the genius that I am, decided on Thursday that I really did want to make a new dress for the occasion. So I sewed like crazy on Thursday and Friday..... and didn't get the dress done on time. (But I did finish it to wear today so pictures are coming.)

This is what I wore instead:
hat-vintage
sweater- The Limited
broach- my great-grandmother's
skirt-vintage
shoes- boutique in Maine

I adore this circle skirt! I got it dead stock with the tags still on it! I believe it's taffeta but it has this great velvet floral print on it. Super fun!

I've been waiting ages to see this show and it was so worth it! We had front row seats so I got an eye full off all of the costumes (and shoes!). I did a Wicked inspiration post a while back and I think another one is in order. Asymmetrical Victorian-esque multicolored goodness!

I had a lot of positive response to my ensemble. I love wearing vintage out and about. People love it!

Wish I was going again! All of the actors were fabulous. I so miss being on stage. I was a drama nerd in high school.

If you've been following me on facebook, you already know that I dyed my hair Thursday. It was this gorgeous dark color with a reddish tint. Alas, it is no longer this color. It is positively plum and I'm not too excited about it. :( I'm so not in love with the purple (though I did have quite a few people say that they liked it) and it will be dyed some other color asap unless the color changes yet again.

A New Hat

Who doesn't love a new hat? This is one I got a while back in February but I hadn't had the chance to wear it.

And the bangs looked great with it. I adore 50s hats.

I got loads of compliments on it. The green bronze combination isn't one that I have a lot of in my wardrobe. Guess I'll have to find some more things to wear with it.

Goodness! I do try to smile when I have my pictures taken but it doesn't come across very well.

Easter Bonnet

While most people choose to wear something extra special on Easter, I opted to stick with an old favorite-my brown and pink circle skirt. I've been wearing it a lot actually. Today I jazzed it up with my new beaded collar and hat.

My husband and I went to his parents' house after church today for dinner and an Easter egg hunt for the my niece and nephew. I took the opportunity to snap a few pictures in their backyard to take advantage of their lovely landscaping.

I tried out a new hairstyle from Lauren Rennells' book and it turned out quite well for a first go. I'm also sporting a new coral lipstick I picked up this weekend. I like it. :)

Check out my hat! It came out very nicely! I made it from this Wearing History pattern. It was actually pretty simple to make. I did have to get a bit creative when pressing the seams since I don't have a tailor's ham. (I've added that to my list of things to sew and already tracked down a tutorial.) I did add a strip to the front of the hat so I could attach different Belle Blossoms as the mood it me. The one I am wearing is January's Blossom of the Month.

I ended up wearing my beaded collar backwards as the overall impression was that it looked a bit odd the other way round. Eh. I'm not one for being super historically accurate anyways.
