This is the last section of the hobby Kimono! Woohoo! I'm tackling knitting and embroidery supplies since I don't have much of either.
All that's left is sentimental items and photos and then we're done with Konmari! Yay!

Emerald Jacket for Weekend Sports
Winter has finally arrived in Florida and it is cold! It's quite amazing how much I've acclimatized in just one year! Since we had what may end up being the coldest weekend of the winter this past weekend, I've been pulling out all of my cold weather pieces to help stay toasty warm.
One of the bummers about living in such a warm area is that my hand knits don't get much wear. It's really just not cold enough for all of that wool. And I do really like knitting too. :(
This also explains why this lovely knitted jacket has been lingering as a UFO for almost two years.... Fail. I started this piece in January 2014 as a second Knit for Victory project and finished it in March 2014.
And then it started getting warm and I put off sewing it up. Somewhere along the way I put together the bodice and attached the sleeves but never got the collar attached. I was quite nervous about putting a zipper in a knit but I did end up purchasing a separating zipper and even threw it in the pile with this piece.
Since it was going to be chilly, I decided to go ahead and finish this piece up so I could at least get a couple of wears out of it. Now that I'm more experienced with hand picked zippers, putting the the zip was a cinch and now I have a cozy sweater jacket!
I was very inspired by Tasha's green wool bomber jacket so I just had to knit this up in some yummy green tweed wool. My guage ended up being a bit odd so I had to do a lot of work to adjust the pattern to match my guage. (I used two of Tasha's excellent tutorials and a lot of math. Thank's Tasha! 1 & 2) But I just had to have this color jacket so it was worth it. I don't remember what I did now but I did add some notes to my Ravelry project page back when I started.
This jacket is super cozy and not itchy at all which is great because I have almost no long sleeved shirts any more. I'm really quite proud of this piece because I had to rework the pattern so much and also conquered some new construction techniques.
Don't expect any more knitting projects un the near future though. Aside from not really having a winter anymore, on my last few yarn purchases, my guage has been way off (by like an inch or more) and it's been rather discouraging. I don't know if it's bad yard or I'm knitting oddly or what but it's way too much work to rework a pattern than much unless I really love it.
At any rate, my current stash of knits will do me quite well. I do need to dig the rest of them out so they can get some wear. I have a matching hat for this jacket somewhere.....
I also wore my gray corduroy skirt and Wearing History Ruthie blouse to finish off this outfit. While I do enjoy getting to wear my summery pieces 85% of the year, it is refreshing to get to wear some more wintery pieces every once in a while.
Either way, I'm oh so happy to have this UFO finished instead of languishing in the knitting box.
What have you been knitting this winter?

Back to Basics
Sometimes, it's great to just have a bunch of basics that you can throw together into an outfit. And by sometimes, I mean all the time.
And that's just what happened with this outfit. Basic green skirt, basic white shirt, basic blue sweater and basic(ish) tan hat.
The hat is a recent find from a local vintage store called Feathers. I just love all of the beading that is still in mint condition! I'm sure I'll get loads of wear out of it! (Those of you who have already started following my brand new instagram will have seen it already.)
The pullover is a new knitting FO. I actually finished it right along side my Knit for Victory project but haven't gotten a chance to wear it until now. It's the Sport's Sweater from A Stitch In Time Vol. 2 although I can't imagine actually doing sports in this sweater (or really any sweater....). It was quite fun to knit but I got side tracked when it came to picking up all of the stitches for the ribbing at the neckline. Two things I do not enjoy knitting....
The skirt is McCall 7032 which is a basic gored skirt with a pleat in the front. I was inspired by Rochelle of Lucky Lucille's lovely basic green skirt and I just *had* to have my own. (and I may or may not have had the exact same fabric she used in my stash.....) I need to go back in and re-enforce the pleat a bit more but I can see this getting loads of wear!
What are your favorite basics to wear?

My green check conure Kiwi posed with me for a few shots. I blew him kisses.
And he gave me kisses back! Love my baby!

Knit For Victory
Despite the fact that I wasn't able to get started on my Knit for Victory project until Thanksgiving, I got my first project finished!
It's Warm Jumper from A Stitch In Time Vol. 2. I was initially put off by this pattern because it looked boring but it knit up really quickly and is going to be a great basic!
I knit up the smallest size which the pattern notes is very short waisted. It worked out great for me since I am a bit short waisted and plan on wearing this only with vintage styles. The sleeves also came out a bit long so I think I'll knit them 1/2" to 1" shorter next go around.
I paired them with my brand new Freddies of Pinewood Norma Jeans which I snagged on sale over Christmas. They are super high waisted and I love them. They are a smidge big at the waist and I may need to take them in a bit but I'm going to see how a belt does first.
I opted for a bold red shirt for under the sweater to break up a bit of the blue of the rest of the outfit.
I am really happy with this project and can't wait to finish my next Knit for Victory project!

Knit for Victory and other things
I've been busy knitting away for Tasha's Knit for Victory knit along. So far I'm working on a lovely sweater from A Stitch in Time Vol. 2.
I've also picked up some gorgeous emerald tweed yarn for this sporty jacket and matching hat. Can't wait to get started!
The graduation dress is still coming along. I did finally buck up and make my own bias tape for this project so that part is done. Just sleeves, a zipper and hemming to go!

He's still quite shy but so cute! :D

A Rainy Bolero for Spring
I've been knitting again! This is the Lavenda Drop Bolero from A Stitch in Time Vol. 2.
It's got this super cute drop pattern that looks just like rain drops.
I paired it with my favorite vintage spring dress. I finally got around to letting out the hem so now my petticoat doesn't peak out anymore.
The weather was so nice! Yay for no rain!
Happy Spring!

WIP: March
I've been working on bits and pieces of things, but knowing that it is much too chilly to wear any of these even if they were finished has given me creative ADD. So, instead of one finished project, I give you several works in progress.
1. Early 40s shirt dress
While at Costume College, I took a class taught by the lovely Lauren of Wearing History on making a working vintage wardrobe and I took detailed notes on the essentials that I wanted to make. One thing that really intrigued me was the idea of a basic white shirt dress that could be matched up with a rainbow of different accessories for tons of looks. I finally cut into the 6 yds of white rayon I brought home from the LA garment district and started this dress. It just needs a few more buttons and hemming....and about 40F higher temperatures.
2. Lavenda Droplet Bolero
I thought a good spring project would be a bolero and I fell in love with this one from A Stitch In Time Vol. 2. It's actually knitting up rather quickly. I've got the back and one side done and the second side is almost done. I'm switching out the long sleeves for the short sleeves from the matching blouse so this project should be finished in the next month or so.
3. My first Vogue
I've started picking up a couple vintage Vogue patterns whenever they go on sale but this is the first time I've ever made one. Since I haven't worked with this brand before, I opted to make a muslin which was a good idea because it needed a bit of work. I've found that muslins are a great way to use up those leftover bits of fabric that are too big to toss but not big enough to really do much with. I've got a great novelty print fabric for this dress and I'm super excited for it!
Have you moved on to Spring/Summer projects or are you trying to squeeze in one last winter projects?

I've been knitting!
I've been knitting! I had two pieces almost finished that I finally got around to finishing this weekend.
This is the scarf from the Fez and Scarf from A Stitch in Time Vol. 2. I had one leftover ball of yarn from a snood I knit from the same book that came out WAY huge because I didn't swatch first. So I knit this up and was planning on frogging the snood to finish it but then I couldn't find the snood for a month or so. But I found it this weekend. I plan on making the fez to go with it some day. Ravelry page for this project.
I also had this shawl done except for weaving in the ends and it's sat around since Christmas break. Finally finished it too but I still need to block it. Ravelry page for this project.
I've also knit a cute bobble hat from A Stitch in Time Vol. 2. So cute. Can't wait for spring so I can wear it! Ravelry page.
I've just cast on this darling bolero but I'm going to do short sleeves.
This is as far as I've gotten. I've got a long way to go. lol! Ravelry page.

Christmas Gifts
I feel so far behind posting yet another Christmas related post in January but I was so busy this holiday season! This post is dedicated to sewing/vintage related gifts given and received!
I love a good book and these are the ones that joined my library this holiday season. All except for the Downton Abbey book (which was a gift from a friend) were purchased with holiday spending money from a used book store. I picked Broadway: The American Musical and Great Movies: 100 Years of Film for the eye candy both vintage and modern. I also spied Montgomery Ward Fashions of the Twenties. I have similar books from the Sears Catalog in 1909-1920, 1930s, 1940s and 1950s so this filled in the gap nicely. On the plus side, the Montgomery Ward book has a series of colored pages in the center but nothing is dated like it is in the Sears Catalog books. I can't wait to really delve into The Chronicles of Downton Abbey but since it's for all three seasons, I'm trying to hold off doing more that drool over the pretty pictures so I don't stumble upon any plot spoilers.
The friend who gave me the Downton Abbey book also gave me two hats-the yellow crochet one that is modern and the blue one which is vintage. She knows me well!
And I couldn't help but share a sneak peak of my 1913 combinations! Lace!!!

My mother-in-law surprised me with this gorgeous Fossil bag. I'm sad to say that I'm just not that into vintage purses. I'm a big purse kind of gal! I was so ecstatic to receive this one! I love Fossil but they are usually out of my price range.
This one is not technically a present but I picked up this lovely Vintage Vogue pattern. With our wedding photography season already starting to get busy, I'm in desperate need of appropriate dresses to wear. Most of my dresses are too "costumey", mainly white, or too casual for wedding shoots. I thought this one would be fabulous!
I knit this one for my step-mom. And I also knit a cowl for my other little sister but I forgot to get photos of it.
And I couldn't help but share a sneak peak of my 1913 combinations! Lace!!!
