Plaid is Rad

I love shopping and sewing! And I've been doing both lately! I picked up a cute pattern for a dress and the cover had one made out of plaid material. I instantly fell in love with the design made by the plaid on the piece and set out to make my own. I finished it yesterday and wore it out for Thanksgiving today!

My hubby also took me out shopping last night as an early Christmas present! I got some super good deals.

I got this red sweater for $20 and a white one in the same style. You can't see, but it has super cute rhinestone buttons! And it's super soft and warm. I actually got hot wearing it and that never happens to me!

I also got these *fabulous* oxford style booties for $30 at White House Black Market! AHHHH! Originally $108!!! I've been thinking about getting a pair of oxford style heals so these were just perfect. They make me super tall and I can actually walk in them as long as I'm on a firm surface (ie not in the grass).

Here is my dress sans sweater. Isn't the way the plaid lies just divine? It's far from perfect but I was very happy with it.

I felt quite stylish today. Did you dress up for the holiday? Or do you prefer comfy, more practical clothes for turkey day?

Fitzgerald Fashionista

Today in my Ireland and America history class, we talked about the Kennedys, as in JF and Jackie. My professor teaches a lot with pictures, so I was hoping for some drool worthy shots of Jackie. I *adore* Jackie. No such luck, but we did talk a bit about JF's mom, Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy. I was quite struck by her sense of style.

She was lovely.

Sorry I've been so quiet lately! It's been pretty crazy around here. So, I've got a couple of little lovelies to show you.

My November BOM from Belle Blossoms came in last Monday! I didn't want to post about it right away as to not ruin the surprise for people who hadn't gotten theirs yet, but I figure most people have theirs by now. (I live only a couple states away from Heather so I get mine pretty quick.)

Isn't is so pretty? I received a bright red Chrysanthemum!

Here's the front view. I like how flat it sits on my head. It's bringing a much needed pop of color to my brown outfit today.

I'm actually wearing it back here today, but I just couldn't get a good picture of it back here. I did, however, manage to get several good shots of Mythbusters on tv!

Gertie's next sew along is coming up soon! My Colette pattern came in this Saturday, which got me all excited! I'm going to really want to start on it soon, but I do have another project to finish first. Gertie shared some fabric picks this week here. I've already picked out my fabric though.

This is the fabric I picked for my dress. (I'm making a Christmas dress, if you couldn't tell.) It's probably a bit heavier weight than is suggested, but I really wanted a Christmas dress and I really loved this fabric. So, I'll have to see how it turns out.

I also won a $35 gift card to Bombshell Bettie's Vintage from Huzzah Vintage. I've already spent it and my stuff may be here today! :D

Fashion and Film: Hairspray

I love musicals! Hairspray is a great one with fab vintage fashions. Normally, I'm not much of a fan of 60s styles, but the early 60s looks in this film are great!

Hairspray is the story of Tracy Turnblad, a teenage Baltimore gal living in 1962. She's a big girl with big dreams-catching the eye of local hottie Link and making it on to the Corny Collins Show with the most popular kids in town. Tracy runs into all sorts of social prejudices against people who are different and takes on a new dream-making a difference. Will she succeed in any of her dreams with so many people against her?

I like this film a lot. The music is great. There are a lot of big name actors and actresses in this film, including John Travolta as Tracy's mom Edna. Christopher Walkin plays her dad and the two are great opposite each other. I could go on and on about this film, but here's some fashion for you.

All Dressed Up and Nowhere to Go

So Thursday I finally got around to trying out the Night Out make up look. It was fun. I opted to use green instead of blue since I don't really like blue on myself. The look turned out ok for my first go. I think next time I'd try purple instead. And the girl in the video had really pigmented colors that showed up really well. My make up was more sheer, but I'll definitely try this look again.

Again, I think a more pigmented color would look better. The green was a little disconcerting too. I felt a bit like a lizard.

I went with a sexy secretary type look. Wish I'd had time to do a Mad Men style hair do!

I love getting mail!

Coming home to a package outside my door is one of my favorite things. Yesterday I came home to two(!!!) and a note that I had one at the post office that I needed to sign for. Oh, happy day!

My first package was a pair of sunglasses that I bought from Super Kawaii Mama. I ordered them a while ago, but as they were coming from down under, they were a while in transit. I broke my last pair of shades a while ago and I've been searching for a new pair. This pair was just pink and fabulous and totally me. They had the added benefit of not making me look like Paris Hilton. (My hubby thought my last pair did.... :/ )

This picture is from Super Kawaii Mama's blog as these shades have already found a home in the car and I was too lazy to go out to the car in my pjs to get them and take pics.

My second package was a Lauren Maurer print I won in Bombshell Bettie's Vintage giveaway. It is even more beautiful in person. If I had I vanity, this picture would go right next to it to inspire me to look fabulous every morning. As I don't have one, I'm probably going to put it in my bedroom somewhere. My husband and I love art and our apartment is full of it. I also have a great Audrey Hepburn poster that needs framed and hung up.

The last package that I had to rescue from the post office was from Wearing History. I love Lauren's store and there were a couple of patterns that I daydreamed about making but was a bit nervous with my sewing skills. I decided to bite the bullet and go ahead and buy a couple.

I love all things sailor and nautical and this playsuit is totally me! It originally was not released in my size and I was super excited when Lauren re-released it in my size.

The second pattern I purchased was a 30's style shorts, pants, and blouse pattern. I'm super excited about the possibilities for this pattern. It looks really tame in the picture but Lauren's made these two:

I absolutely adored this blue, pink and red shirt that flew out of Lauren's store.

I also adore this shirt that is currently available in the shop. The two colors of rick rack is so cute!

I also purchased a hand made retro bustier from Wearing History. It's so cute! A retro kitchen print with alternating vintage buttons.

How could you not love this! I may have to wear it tomorrow despite the 50 degree weather.
