Be a Princess

Disney World is one of my favorite places to go especially the Magic Kingdom! So I was super excited to spend the day there with my hubby and a few friends.

Ever since I got this Pin Up Girl Clothing skirt, I knew I had to wear it to the Magic Kingdom one day and that day has arrived! It was so much fun to run around in a very princess-y skirt all day.

It was quite busy the day we went so I didn't get any shots in front of the castle but I did stop in a secluded pathway to grab a couple quick iPhone photos for you guys. The weather was gorgeous so a lot of people had the same idea to visit Disney as we did.

I did have a lot of people compliment me on this skirt. It's so pretty! It kind of makes me wish that I had worn my tiara too but the last time I wore a tiara around Disney, it ended up getting broken and I didn't want that to happen again. :(

So who is your favorite Disney princess? My favorites are Belle and Snow White.

My Konmari Journey Part #6: Make Up

Ah, make up! All of the pretty things we love to wear! I'm definitely not that much of a makeup junky compared to a lot of fashion/beauty bloggers but I do have a nice stash (or did before I Konmari'ed it!). I have found that I really like to have nicer products in my make up stash and by only having a few trusty products, I can afford to splurge on the things I do use.

While I really do enjoy playing with different make up looks on occasion, I generally reach for the same products again and again so those are the ones I decided to keep. It's really nice to clean out old product and colors that just didn't work on me. Getting ready in the morning has been so much nicer now too! No more digging through product for the one I want.

Do you enjoy having a large make up stash or do you stick to your tried and true favorites?

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

Ah, Christmas! My favorite season is here! There's something quite magical about this time of the year. And I try to wear all of the Christmas themed outfits as much as possible between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

So when I had a few Christmas parties to go this weekend, I pulled out a green skirt and red sweater for an easy holiday look. While it's not the most obnoxiously festive outfit in my closet, it's definitely a pairing that I can't pull off for most of the year!

Recently, I added a few plain t-shirts to my wardrobe and I've been wearing them a lot. They are great, comfortable basics even if they are not period appropriate.

However, I can't help but think that if t-shirts like this would have been available in the 1940s, they would have been a staple in the wardrobes of hard working, make do and mend ladies. So I don't have a problem of including them in a 40s inspired look.

To add a bit more flair to the outfit, I went with red and green jewelry and, of course, red lipstick! Red lippy is a great way to make any outfit feel more retro.

I feel like I've really come full circle in my fashion. When I started this blog, I was all into war ear 40s fashions, but I ended up trying lots of other period-20s, 30s, early 40s, late 40s and 50s.

I keep coming back to the classic 40s silhouette! It's so flattering on me! I didn't keep many of my 40s pieces in my Project 333 and I've been missing them. So I cheated a bit and pulled this skirt out early.

I'll be doing a Project 333 write up later this month, but while I feel like I could live on just a 33 piece wardrobe, I don't feel like I'm very good at picking out those pieces. I'm to easily distracted by what I want to wear now which may not be what I want to wear in 2-3 months.

In other news, it's been unseasonably warm lately so I haven't really been able to dig into my fall pieces yet. Boo.

My Konmari Journey Part #5: Skin Care

Oh, this decluttering process is taking more time and energy that I expected but it continues. Today, I've got my skin care and hair care products to declutter. I don't have a lot of skin care products and what I do have, I use! But I have collected a rather larger collection of hair care products through my vintage hair journey some of which were not winners.

It feels so good to have my bathroom space so neat and clean!

My Konmari Journey Part #4: CDs and DVDs

The next section in the Konmari Method is Komono or miscellaneous items. This category includes everything that's not clothes, books, papers or sentimental items i.e. most of your belongings. Mari includes several subcategories and I'll be adding on a few of my own to cover all of my belongings. First up is CDs and DVDs so let's jump in!

Three Things November

Ah, I can't believe that November is almost over! It'll be Christmas and then 2016 before we know it! I definitely have some things that I want to finish before the end of the year but for now, here's a look at some of the things that have been keeping me busy in November.

I've been dipping my toes in some new creative endeavors lately. If you follow me on Instagram, you'll have seen these Bible journaling pages. Above are three of my favorites so far.

1. Let all that you do be done in love. 1 Cor. 16:14
2. The Character of Stephen Acts 6
3. Love your neighbor as yourself. Lev. 19:18

My other creative outlet lately has been adult coloring! So relaxing! I like to do it in the evening to relax and unwind while watching tv. There is something that makes me feel good when I color inside of the lines.

1. Coloring supplies-colored pencils and water color pencils
2. Coloring books-Color the Psalms and Today is Going to Be a Great Day
3. Two finished coloring pages

Since doing Project 333 and starting the Konmari Method, I've been focusing on getting rid of things rather than shopping but I've had the shopping bug lately. My closet has definitely shrunk and my hubby has lost a ton of weight this year and needed some new clothes so we decided to plan a shopping weekend. Floridians must love to shop because we had quite a few outlet malls to choose from for our adventure. We ended up going to one in Orlando and then hitting up Disney Springs (formerly Downtown Disney). Above are a few of my favorite purchases.

1. A gorgeous 50s appropriate dress from White House Black Market
2. An abstract floral print Fossil purse
3. Disney scarves-one Star Wars and one hidden Mickey

I was really happy with these and my other purchases. I've been keeping a list of wardrobe wants so I can be strategic about growing my wardrobe so it won't get out of hand again. I'm really big on quality so I'm willing to acquire things slowly, save up for key pieces and shop around for deals on good brands so I can afford quality things. I was very happy that I didn't get distracted!

On the sewing front, I'm still definitely in refashion mode. It's been great to get to wear improved versions of things I loved but didn't quite work. These are the next few projects I'm planning on doing.

1. Take in yellow Bernie Dexter Dress (too big)
2. Super hero apron for the hubby
3. Re-refashion rose print polka dot skirt since it came out too big

My Konmari Journey Part #3: Papers

There's even more decluttering going on over here at Girl with the Star-Spangled Heart! In today's video, I'm tackling papers. I don't know about you, but I dislike paperwork. Blah! Thankfully, Mari Kondo agrees with me. Time to get rid of those uneccessary papers!

Next up, I'll be diving into the Kimono or miscellaneous category. After CDs and DVDs, there will be a few categories I think you guys will really enjoy-skin care, makeup and accessories! I can't wait!
