A Signature Look

Today I've been pondering the idea of a signature look. I don't have one and I don't know if I need/want one. There are many bloggers who have signature looks-something about them that is instantly noticeable and recognizable. Lisa Freemont Street has her red hair. Super Kawaii Mamma has the iconic white stripe in her hair. Vixen Vintage has a cute curly hair do that she wears very often. Q's Daydream and Rhinestones and Telephones have their adorable bobs.

I problem is that I have style ADD, hair ADD, sewing ADD. I like too many things! While I don't think I'll ever stabilize my fashion enough to settle on a decade, I have lately been thinking about finding a signature look for my hair. I want something I can do with my hair on a day to day basis that looks nice and is super easy to do. And I really hate when my hair just hangs there on my head. I have a naturally high forehead and I feel that my flat, straight hair makes it look even bigger and more rectangular shaped. I do like bangs but not enough to commit long term to them (I think.... actually, the bang issue really set off this whole thought process. *sigh* to fringe or not to fringe?)

So, what I want to know is do you have a signature look (hair, wardrobe or makeup related)? Have you in the past? Do you want one? Do you enjoy more freedom (or get bored like me)?

  1. I have pretty severe hair ADD and I don't think there's anything signature about my wardrobe. (I don't wear makeup, so that's also out!) I think if there's anything signature about my appearance it's probably my glasses. I always have fun glasses. My last pair were bright purple and blue and my current pair are Buddy Holly-esque. I love fun glasses!

  2. I guess I could say my hair is a signature... unlike a lot of people my age, I keep it long and henna-dye it red. Well, more auburn. But still. And I do have a tendency towards funky dangly earrings and crazy print tops or skirts....aside from that, I honestly don't know!

  3. I wish I could do a signature look, but the problem is I change my hair almost yearly and my style isn't specifically set in stone. Some days I feel like dressing vintage, others preppy, and of course sometimes I'm kitted out in knitwear. I love the idea, but doubt I could stick to it!

  4. I don't have one that I know of, but I figure if I keep wearing stuff I genuinely like and don't worry if other people like it, the look will take care of itself!

  5. I have struggled with this issue a lot lately without getting anywhere. It is to do mostly with liking various styles, but I am gravitating more and more towards early 30's and 20's and badly feel the need to get a hair style to reflect that. However my wardrobe is still at the wannabe stage when it comes to these periods, and consists in fact of a mix of eras and modern clothes with a classic cut. With the price of vintage souring over the past year, I am finding more and more difficult to acquire the things I want and end up more than often settling for a compromise...So on the short, it doesn't fully reflect my purest aesthetics nor does it my most ardent wishes.
The hair question is in my case: to bob or not to bob? Keeping it long offers a versatility that functions with the whole of my wardrobe. I can do all sorts with it...but then looking back through my blog there is hardly a picture with it long, I mostly seem to fake short styles! Bobbing it would have the overall effect of giving more authenticity to my most beloved looks...but then I have had long hair for a few years and find hard to let go. On top of that my experiences at the hairdresser nearly always end up in tears. If something goes wrong with the bob, it will be pretty difficult to repair it!

  6. I too suffer from style ADD and can't seem to pin down one, signature look for very long! ;) Too many eras call my name. ;) (Right now I'm going between the ladylike 50s and late 60s/early 70s romantic bohemian look! ;) The one thing that I do keep consistently, though, is my winged blacked eyeliner. Whether I'm sporting a 40s or modern look, nine times out of ten I'm wearing my winged liner. It's just "me" after 6+ years! ;) Plus I get horribly bored when I do my hair the same way day after day, but my makeup seems to be immune to this ADD. ;)

  7. I've often considered having a signature style, but I'm pretty style ADD as well. I do think there is a common thread that runs through my "look" that makes it very me, though. I have a fondness for headbands, and everything I wear has a distinctly feminine look (I'm not much for minimalism or "edge"). As far as my hair goes..anything goes! The color used to change regularly, but since I went black, it's very hard to change colors without bleaching or growing it out, so I satisfy myself by growing it..then cutting it..then growing it. Right now it's a bob with bangs (I'm pro bang! If you keep them on the longish side, they are really versatile.)

  8. I definitely don't have a signature day-to-day style. Well, maybe I do! I'm hair lazy, so I usually pull back the top with a bobby pin and call it a day ;) When it's longer I do a mini-pomp on top and a ponytail. I guess day-to-day for me is uber-low maintenance (mostly jeans and t shirts or button up blouses), and I save my making up for vintage events and such :)
