When in doubt, more bling!

I have issues with accessorizing. I never can decide if things go, especially brooches! Today, I threw caution to the wind and went with lots of bling. After all, the 50s were all about more, bigger and better.

I love the print of this dress because it can be paired with so many different colors.

I went with black as my neutral instead of white because I wanted to go very sophisticated. I would have preferred black shoes too but I didn't have any barn friendly black shoes to wear (to my church which is held in a riding arena.).

For bling, I went with a pair of silver confetti Lucite earrings which looked much smaller when I bought them and a sparkly rhinestone vintage brooch. In this case, I think the bold print really called for bold accessories that wouldn't get lost next to it.

Sparkly!

This is a me-made dress and it's the pattern I'll be making my Halloween dress from. You guys have about 95% convinced me that I really need another collared version but I do want to get my hands on the actual fabric first.

I really love this dress and I don't know why I don't wear it more often!

I actually have enough of this fabric leftover to squeeze out another dress which I may get to this fall/winter.

  1. Your whole outfit is adorable! I really love the pattern you used- I made a similar dress a couple years ago, but made the collar a contrasting fabric and the finished dress just never lived up to my hopes. You've inspired me to try the pattern again though, because I really love the way yours looks! :-)

  2. I really love this dress! I am going to have to go back to your original post and look at your pattern. This is a fabulous style for you. Is the print you are wearing cotton? It has a great drape effect. I love that you added a brooch. I sometimes find if I am in a "I don't know what to do" accessory mode I just look back at a couple of ads from vintage fashion magazines and I see so much inspiration. These ladies knew how to dress! You have a great back drop for your photographs with the red house. Lovely!

    1. I'm not sure what the content is. It's been in my stash for a while but I'm thinking mostly/all poly just because it doesn't wrinkle and I almost never find great cotton prints at JoAnns.

  3. I heard someone once say should put all the accessories you think you need, and then take one off. I don't know if I'm the best at accessorizing either, but I love looking at sparkly things. I always like how you pair things in your outfits, and this dress is classically beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

What is the Number for the Simplicity Pattern you've used?
