Bloggers in Berets

Yesterday, I shared some vintage beret inspiration and today I thought I'd share some of my favorite beret wearing bloggers for style inspiration.

Gemma of Retro Chick rocks a beret with pants and it's covering unbrushed out pin curls. Great for those days when you have to get up early but want to look cute later.

And here she is again in a 30s look.

Charlotte of Tuppence Ha'penny uses her beret to add a pop of color to her outfit.

This white beret looks great on her dark hair

Solanah of Vixen Vintage coordinates hers with a fab coat for a great on the go look.

Doesn't she look straight from Paris?

Tasha of By Gum, By Golly is a knitter and she knit her lovely fair isle beret. I love how she pulls in the beret with bold yellow accessories.

And here she rocks pattern mixing with a striped beret and a plaid 49er.

Photos are property of the respective bloggers so please don't use their pictures without linking back to their lovely blogs.

Review: Bare Minerals Pretty Amazing Lip Color

Love this lip color! A great red for vintage gals.

I tried a couple of new settings and this video uploaded must faster! Let me know what you think of the quality.

Vintage Berets

Berets are a very classic and stylish hat. Plus you can get them today!

The 30s saw many tight to the head hats including the beret!

Oh, yummy!

The 40s saw the beret move to sitting on the top of the heat at a jaunty angle.

So chic!

Berets can be decorated with a pin or feather.

While black is a classic beret color don't neglect other colors or even patterned berets! Also knit and crocheted berets were popular.

MMM'12-Still hanging in there

Wow, this month has been so crazy. Finals, then vacation, new pets and I'm still not back at work yet. Seriously, the days are starting to blur together. Plus, I've been in a mood to wear vintage but most of my vintage pieces don't really go with any of my me-made pieces.

Day 22

Seriously, I don't even remember anything that happened on Tuesday.

Day 23

30s Pendrell with jeans

Day 24

Colette Pattern's Ceylon as a top. This was intended to be a wearable muslin but the fit in the chest was off. I always forget that Colette Patterns are a C cup and I think I did too big of an FBA so there was some gaping and bunching. I finally got around to fixing those problems so I can wear this top.

Day 25

Yay long weekend!

Lavinia's Sweetheart Dress

So, I watched the entire season 2 of Downton Abbey yesterday and got inspired to get Dressing Downton back up and running again! Today's dress is a lovely black ensemble worn by Lavinia.

It features a sweetheart neckline and cute little shear sleeves.

It's fitted to the hips and has a gathered, layered skirt. In this shot, it looks like the fabric has some kind of metallic print on it. What a LBD!

While watching, I was struck by this dress' similarity to Sewaholic's latest pattern- The Cambie dress! The great thing about this pattern is that you could make it as fancy or simple as you like!

NonBettie Bettie Bangs

Woohoo! Youtube video time! Today's video is an alternative way to style Bettie Bangs. Enjoy!

Yard Sale

I've decided to let go of a few pieces from my wardrobe and I'm going to give you guys first dibs! Please check measurements carefully. You need to be smaller than the measurements to fit! To purchase, please email me at and I will send you a paypal invoice after we've worked out the details and shipping.

First up, Freddies of Pinewood 1940s Work Pants sold

I adore these pants, but they are sadly too big for me now. :( They fit just perfectly when I was w: 31.5", h: 45".

Size 32"
waist:  32"
hips: 46"

Condition: Like new-I didn't get to wear these pants too often before they became too big and I've taken very good care of them. Currently sell new for 50 GBP (~$78) + shipping (~$30 to US).

I did wear them cuffed but they didn't drag on the ground and the bottoms are not damaged in any way.

And the other side. It's been so long since I've worn these that I can't remember if they are clean so I will wash them before I ship them out to their new home!

Next, vintage white dress sold

I thrifted this dress in high school so I'm not sure how old it is, but it is just darling.

Vintage size 9/10
bust: 32"
waist: 26"
hips: 40"

The outer fabric is sheer with opaque white stripes and the lace has bows in it! The bodice is lightly boned for extra support. The back is poking out funky in this picture because I can't zip it on me!

Condition: very good- There are a couple of rust spots on the back of one of the lace bows but it won't be seen when worn. Also a corner or two of the boning is poking out at the top. If you find it too pokey, you can file down the plastic boning so it's not sharp.

It has a darling lapped zipper in the back.

Included is a little self-fabric wrap.

1960s Tweed plaid skirt suit $60 + shipping

Oh, so Mad Men! This 60s plaid tweed set is just too cute! It features a cute knit trim with little balls on the top and is fully lined! It's very warm and I just adore the skirt. If the top fit I'd so be keeping this lovely but, alas, it does not. It's nice and warm

bust: 36"
waist: 31"

waist: 28"
hips: 40"

The top closes with a back zipper. The skirt features a back vent (which is off center in this shot. Oops!) and has a side zipper.

Tears in underarm lining.

Condition: very good- There are a few tares in the lining and some repaired ones, but this really does not affect the wearability of the garment! They'd be simple to repair or just wear a slip if the exposed fabric is too itchy for you. It smelled heavily of moth balls when I got it, but after a professional dry cleaning and some airing out, the smell is almost completely gone.

Two repaired and two not repaired tears in skirt lining.

Feel free to email me ( questions or leave them in the comments. I have one or two more pieces that I'm still on the fence about so there may be more things on sale later on.

Fashion and Film: Les Girls

Today's Fashion and Film post is Les Girls (1957), a fabulous Gene Kelly musical set in Paris. Barry (Kelly) is an American performer in France with his three leading ladies-Joy (Mitzi Gaynor), Sybil (Kay Kendall) and Angele (Taina Elg). Years later, Sybil writes a tell all novel that portrays Angele in a bad light. A lawsuit ensues but who's version is correct? Sybil's? Angele's? Or perhaps a third version entirely? Told in flash backs during the trial, this film is full of singing and dancing and yummy costumes.

Evening gowns straight from Paris!

A period number. Love the hair!

A yummy black and white number!

Rehearsing a steamy number.

The casual wear and lounge wear in this film are great too!

I adore the opulent numbers in 50s musicals.

A skimpy (and pretty ridiculous) audition ensemble but don't miss the other two ladies in the back.

Some More Me-Made May '12

MMM'12 Day 17

Wearing History Sailor Playsuit skirt
rtw blouse

Day 18

No photo but I wore my floral circle skirt

Day 19

No photo but I wore my 30s Pendrell

Day 20

Alas, none of these photos came out because the camera got left on a funky setting. :(  This was a refashion that I made to wear at Disney but never wore. Guess I'll have to wear it again soon!

Day 21

Sorbetto blouse
rtw jeans

I'm totally loving the cuffed jeans and fun blouse look right now!

Leah and Rachel are settling in ok. They are anxiously awaiting the arrival of their new cage. The one we original one we bought looked so much bigger on the box! The new one is like 3x the size of this one and the old one is going to be converted into a sleeping/travel cage after the new one arrives (hopefully tomorrow!).

In other news, I've not been sewing much. I took in the waistband on two skirts and did some post-weight loss adjustments on two blouses but that's about it. I have been knitting like a fiend though! This is the back of my current wip. It's very relaxing plus I can knit and babysit the birds while they explore at the same time.

How to get great 2nd day hair

Phew! This video was quite a production so you better like it! ;)

I have got to find a faster way to upload youtube videos. This one took like 4 hours?!? So with film, editing, converting (another lengthy process!) and then processing on youtube, these things are literally taking a whole day. Any tips? I might try filming at a bit lower quality and see how that works. Ever since I got my mac and started using iMovie, things have been taking much longer....

Disney: Hollywood Studios

Saturday saw us back at Hollywood Studios for the whole day.

I went all rockabilly with my cherry circle skirt and Bettie bangs. Alas, I didn't have room in my suitcase for a crinoline but it was fun to wear anyways.

We saw loads of shows including Beauty and the Beast. Bell is probably my favorite princess! No surprise as she's a brunette who loves to read. ;)

There is also a cool car stunt show. Not really my thing but they do set a guy on fire.

The decor in this park is great for a vintage lover. Many of the shops have a fabulous art deco feel and the female shop workers even wear cute 30s style ensembles. Plus there were a few classic cars around.

See! 30s cuteness!

And I couldn't do this post without a Star Wars picture!

Today was the only day I braved the red lipstick. I found a new one before I left for the trip that lasts a lot longer. It does bleed a bit so lip liner is a must. Full review to come!
