Indian Summer

September is the month that never really makes up it's mind as to what season it wants to be. We had quite a long stretch of chilly late fall weather so I packed up all of my summer clothes.

And wouldn't you know, it was decidedly summery this weekend. So goes life in the midwest.

So I pulled out this Bernie Dexter dress to wear to a wedding we shot this weekend. It is such a fun dress that I couldn't resist the chance to wear it one more time.

To be honest, I'd been having a bit of an identity crisis lately. Between the growing out pixie, the new hair color and the having to wear more modern clothes to work, I just wasn't feeling like me.

Plus, I've been doing so much costuming, I haven't even had the chance to start on any of my fall sewing projects!! But this weekend, I really felt like I found myself again.

My hair is finally back at pincurl length again! It probably would have been ok earlier, but with work being crazy, I hadn't had time to really play with it until this weekend!

And I finally gave up on the reddish brown hair color. It just wasn't me! So back to darker hair it was.

Sometimes it's nice to have a break from all of the effort that goes into dressing vintage, but just like any vacation, it feels good to be home again once you're done!

  1. You look beautiful in this dress, and I like the darker hair color on you, too. I've been going through a bit of a break from straight up vintage, too, but it's definitely fun to mix modern and vintage and I agree it makes it more fun when you can get back to it again.

  3. That dress looks so beautiful on you! There are some dresses that just make you feel so good inside. Sometimes it's the cut, the color, or the feel of the dress. Sometimes a change is good, but most often I like clothes that I'm used to. That could be why my closet is stuffed!

The colors of this dress is just so joyfull!!!!!! You look perfect.
Bernie Dexter's dresses always have great designs but I think that they will look better with a few more cm at hem... I like long skirts!

  5. Wonderful dress, the colors suit you so perfectly, and I think I'm in agreement with you - I do like the darker hair color for your complexion, it highlights your features nicely. :)

I completely understand the identity crisis and not feeling like yourself; it can be a real struggle to marry personal style with the realities of day-to-day living. But you already know that, 'coz you saw my post about it the other day... ;D ♡ Hope you find a nice balance for yourself soon!

  7. Welcome home. This is such a wonderful dress, I haven't seen to many of the Bernie dresses, but of the ones that I have, this is my favorite print yet. It looks amazing on you! I love the darker hair on you, glad that it is finally to a length that you are able to do the styles that you enjoy.
