Are you ready for summer?

Memorial Day and the unofficial start of summer are just around the corner! I am so excited for summer and fun, pretty summer dresses (even though I can wear them pretty much year round here in Florida). I'm so ready for bbq and picnic season to begin. The 1950s is a great decade for summer wear with bright, fun prints and light full skirts.

I am so in love with this pink polka dot dress that it's seriously making me reconsider the lack of pink in my wardrobe. This dress would be dreamy in a lovely light cotton.

If pink is not your thing, why not try this lovely black and white number? This darling sleeveless sundress will keep you looking fabulous at all of your summer events. Don't forget your sun hat.

Solids with white accents make a smart look for summer. A great basic dress like one of these will be in heavy rotation all summer.

While florals definitely have a strong spring feel, I adore wearing them in the summer too! Swap your cardigan for a parasol and you'll be ready for summer.

Don't forget to think of comfort when you dress for summer. Whether it's too hot to be bothered or you're having too much fun to fuss with your outfit, stick with styles you love to live in. I particularly love her updo which will stay looking great all day in the summer heat.

Are you ready for summer? What are your plans for Memorial Day weekend?

Summer Sewing Plans

I'm already thinking of summer sewing! While I've been on a 40s kick pretty much all of 2015 so far, the warmer weather has brought out my 50s side! Or maybe it's just the bob hair cut. Either way, I'm planning some cute midcentury additions to my wardrobe this summer.

I'm in desperate need of some new shorts! I have one pair of rtw shorts but the two pair of me made shorts need to be replaced. One pair is too big and the other is getting kind of sad looking. So I'll be making a new pair of high waisted sorts from this Wearing History pattern.

My wardrobe is in desperate need of a basic black blouse so I'm going to make one from this pattern. I also need to replace my basic white blouse. The one I have wrinkles if you even look at it so I hardly ever wear it.

I also want to make at least one dress. I've got my eye on this pattern from the stash. I just adore the pockets and it looks easy and comfortable for summer. Also, love their hair!

I've also had to retire one of my circle skirts so I think I may replace it as well. I adore a great basic.

Orange You Glad It's Summer?

I'm not entirely sure how it happened, but orange has become my unofficial color for summer 2014.

Maybe it's the move to Florida but when I saw this orange fruit filled skirt at Pin Up Girl Clothing, I had to have it.

Especially since I already had this orange blouse in the works for my playsuit! Speaking of playsuits, I've been bad and not gotten any proper photos of mine yet. I'm sure some of you ladies are in the same predicament, so we'll do the wrap up/link sharing party on July 7th. This way, we all have a few more days to get photos, write blogs and post to Flickr!

Ok, back to this outfit! I've seen this skirt styled a lot with dark green which does look nice but I wanted a brighter color palette for summer!

It's finally hot now. Not too hot for me, just a nice comfortable cozy sort of warm. (Which, of course, means everyone else is sweating buckets.)

I didn't have any orange or green gloves to match (and it's almost impossible to find vintage white gloves that are still actually white) so I went with yellow. There is quite a bit of yellow in some of these oranges plus I got to wear one of my favorite yellow hats.

I'm sure I'll be wearing this outfit loads this summer because even my hubby loves it! Apparently, it's not as "old lady" as I usually like.

The blouse is Butterick 7641 c. 1958 which I have made before but in the short sleeved version.

I was a bit nervous that this view would be a bra strap showing version, but my fears were all for naught since they stay safely hidden! :D

Summer Yellow

There are some colors that just go so well with summer and I think yellow is one of those colors!

Not to mention that bright cheerful colors help me be more perky in the morning. (I am so not a morning person.....)

And you know, I just bought a cute pair of yellow gloves! Normally, I'm much more of a matchy matchy person when it comes to shades of colors, but I'm trying to get over it.

Alas, we've gotten to the part of the summer where my hair deflates a lot if I'm outside at all. Oh, how it makes me long for the days when it was long enough to just throw up in a snood.

Let's hope you're all too distracted by my bright yellow dress to notice.

A Country BBQ

One thing I really miss when having an apartment is grilling out. So I love when friends invite me over for a bbq!

The weather was really gorgeous but a bit sunny so it was the perfect excuse to pull out this great sun hat.

These friends are huge animal lovers and have all sorts of creatures including chickens!

I love birds and these guys are pretty cute! The babies are even cuter. :D

I love these silver confetti earrings! They go with pretty much everything but they are quite huge.

This dress is Simplicity 2801 that I made back in May.

I love that it pretty much speaks for itself and doesn't need a whole lot to make an outfit.

I wish I had thought to take a shot of the steaks we had. They were huge! Even the guys ended up splitting them.

Do you love summer bbqs?

1950s Summer Hat Hair

Summer is coming (if the winter weather ever decides to go away for good!). And my hair is long enough to really do some cute dos. So that means it's hat season! :D

This video features a darling 50s hat I found at a local vintage store. Enjoy!

Speaking of local vintage stores, I've been wanting to host a blogger meet up for forever! I know some of you local(ish) ladies have also wanted to do a meet up, so let's do it! If you're interested, please email me at girlwiththestarspangledheart [at] gmail [dot] com.
