How I Wore: Atomic Circle Skirt

I want to start a new series where I show you how I rework old pieces into new outfits. New things are fun but it's great to get to wear a favorite piece again and again! I thought I'd start with one of my favorite pieces, my atomic circle skirt!

I adore navy blue and it looks fab with brown. Don't be afraid to mix neutrals for a classy look.

 The cuffs on this white blouse are a great detail. I highlighted them by wearing a darker sweater. Plus a twirl for effect.

I went for a classic sweater girl look for Thanksgiving last year. An outfit like this would also be great with a fun brooch.

Turn this skirt into a spring affair with a nice spring green sweater. The crazy floral hat also adds to the effect.

It's impossible to go wrong with teal! Matching skirt and hat for the win.

What's your favorite styling of this skirt? I think the navy version is my favorite but that's also my favorite hat so I may be biased. All of these versions make me happy though! And a chemistry teacher can't go wrong with atomic symbols!

In the Navy

Well, in navy at least....... I love a great classic outfit and this is a favorite!

 I just adore this navy hat! Too bad I have two navy hats and this blouse is the only navy thing in my wardrobe! Must fix this soon!

I love this brown circle skirt. It's basic but super nerdy with the atomic symbols! (I'm a chemistry grad student.)

 I opted to wear this outfit without a crinoline in the ballerina style. This style was popular in the early 50s before crinolines were in style. My skirt is a bit short for the ballerina style since they were usually ankle length or so but it's a nice change from the crinoline.

I've also been loving my new coral lipstick (Coral Crush by Red Apple Lipstick). Such a great color for summer! Not as fussy as red but still a lot of color.

I posted back in April about the hand sewn hem debacle that happened with this circle skirt and I finally fixed the hem and got some outfit posts of it!

Tada! I went for a coral and teal color palette. I love these two colors together and I think it gives a more modern edge to a very vintage ensemble.

My much beloved teal hat! It doesn't exactly match the color of the skirt, but they are so far from each other that I can cheat. Shhh! Don't tell. ;)

I just adore circle skirts! This one is made from a teal cotton twill and I used a 1950s magazine pattern to make it. The only thing I did differently (aside from hemming it twice) was to add a waist stay. I really like my circle skirts with almost no ease in the waist so they don't sag from the weight of all of that fabric.

I usually love a red lip but this outfit just needed coral instead!

I love this color palette heaps and I'm wishing for a few more cool days so I can wear this combo again before summer really sets in!

Spring, Spring, Spring

I just love when it starts to warm up at the beginning of spring! I'm sure there will be a few more chilly periods before spring really takes hold but I took advantage of the nice weather to show off my legs!

I just love this circle skirt! It's one of the first things I ever made. The fabric has started to fade a bit but it's still wearable.

These shots were taken at an outdoor mall. It's one of my husband and my favorite palaces to hang in the summer. When it's hot out, the fountain behind me is on.

 

I had planned on waiting to cut my bangs till later in the summer but they got the chop last weekend and I've been loving them.

And my hair is finally long enough to pincurl without too much difficulty. Woot!

Purple peep toe wedges! I took style notes from the 40s and matched my accessories to each other instead of sticking with just the colors in my outfit.

And it wouldn't be a trip to the mall without some shopping! Mostly we just went out to enjoy the weather but I love window shopping too!

Mxing Up Some Old Favorites

New clothes are so fun but sometimes it's nice to slip on an old favorite that you know will look great.

This circle skirt is one of the first few things I ever sewed and I still love it!

It's lost some of it's luster but it's still got plenty of life left in it.

My bangs are getting to be an odd length so I clipped them back with a bow.

The problem with cutting your own bangs is that sometimes you have an oops. I cut my bang area too deep a while back so I really must grow them all out before I even think about cutting them again.

Anyways, whenever my husband and I shoot a wedding, I always pretend to be the bride (and party) so he can test out lighting etc.

It's pretty fun sometimes.

Spring Fever

On Thursday, I got double surprises as my hubby surprised me with ballet tickets and my Christmas American Duchess 23skidoo shoes (also from the hubby) arrived! :D

Even though these shoes are 20s/30s styles, I paired them with a 50s circle skirt and hat. The weather ended up being unseasonably warm and that springy feeling came out in my wardrobe choices.

 

After posting about brooches this week, I felt inspired to wear one of mine! It was my great-grandmother's but since I received it after she passed I'm not sure how old it is.

These shoes were sooo fun to wear. The entire time, I felt like bursting into a crazy dance number.

I had plans to make a 30s dress especially to go with these shoes but I've been so busy with school that it hasn't happened yet! It's going to be more of a summer weight dress anyways, so it's ok.

Looking back to fall

The weather has been miserably cold lately and I've been dreaming of beautiful fall days! So, I dug up some unblogged outfit shots for a fall daydreaming post!
