This is the tropical print rayon I snagged in the garment district last year. I finally got to sew something with it! :D
Fabric: rayon ($4/yd)
Pattern: Eva Dress D40-3863
Year: 1943
Notions: snaps
Hours to complete: 5
First worn: June 2012
Total cost: $15
This dress was pretty crazy to make just because I had to do 4 separate FBAs because each layer of the wrap front needed an FBA on each side. It was kind of complicated to figure out but I think it worked out ok.
It was a really fun dress to wear and I think the print looks amazing in these photos.
The other photographer's wife and I took turns being the model so sometimes I got to hold the reflector.
We also went to a hat store down town called Brim. It was super fun trying on hats.
This hat so had my name written all over it!
I also adored this great tilt hat! Alas, both were way out of my budget.
I had such a blast hamming it up for the camera!
Wow love the print on this dress! And your super cute hairstyle! I have short hair (like a pixie cut) and have thought about growing it a bit so I can do different styles - yours looks great the way you've styled it :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! You can still do quite a bit of cute things with a pixie. I had a pixie in Oct-Dec of last year and was growing it out in Jan-April of this year. If you are looking for some ideas to try without having to give up your pixie yet, I have some pixie retro styles on my youtube channel:http://www.youtube.com/user/StarspangledHeart and VintageDoris also has some on hers: http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfePGZTJ0Q2dfDzRgjdU3MA
DeleteWow your videos are great! Thanks for directing me to them. I loved the Audrey Hepburn 'Sabrina' one. My hair is shorter than yours was at that time but I think I might be able to recreate what you did with your fringe!
DeleteThe dress is fab! You look like you had a blast! I LOVE the hat third from the bottom. I might have to check out this store next time I'm up in Dayton.
ReplyDeleteIndeed! That hat was fabulous! :) It's a super cute store plus it's right down the street from two vintage stores.
DeleteLove this fabric!! It really is perfect as a staple dress. Think of all the colorful accessories you can pair with it. :) It's so cool you have so many friends who are photographers. My aunt is a photographer, but she lives to far to take these cool photo shoots.
ReplyDeleteI know! I don't usually like bakelite but this dress makes me want to wear an armful of colorful bangles!
DeleteThat came out fantastic! You picked the perfect pattern for the fabric, and it looks SO good on you.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I was a bit self conscious in it because it doesn't make my waist look as tiny as 50s dresses do but it was quite fun to wear.
DeleteOmg this photos are amazing! What a beauty you are! But make them bigger! heheh I love your dress and it looks like you had an amazing day out! xox
ReplyDeleteThe pictures are now bigger! ;)
DeleteLove all of them! You're so gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteI love the picture of you with the black tilt hat! Frame material:) Just lovely! Also, so nice to see how you made this lovely floral dress. I give you a lot of credit! I've just started to make my own dress. I need to get cracking on the stitching part of it:) Lovely material, the colors are perfect for you.
ReplyDeleteThat first hat made you look a lot like Audrey Hepburn!
ReplyDeleteLaurie
I mean that second hat. The black one.

That dress is fabulous on you! Great job. Also that black hat is perfect for you. You should definitely get it some time!
ReplyDeleteYou look fetching in that black hat.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulously fun way to spend a date night! It's great that you guys have fellow photographer friends where you live to hang out with. Love (!) your new dress - tropical prints and summer were made for one another, and this one looks so beautiful on you!

I'm in the process of trying to get my head around the (lack of!) instructions for this pattern, so hats off to you for also figuring out multiple FBAs!! Fingers crossed mine turns out half as lovely as yours :)
ReplyDeleteLet me know if you have any questions that I might be able to help with!
