Photography Date Night

Last Friday, the hubby and I hit downtown with another photographer and his wife for a photography double date night! And it just so happened that I had a brand new dress to wear.

This is the tropical print rayon I snagged in the garment district last year. I finally got to sew something with it! :D

Fabric: rayon ($4/yd)
Pattern: Eva Dress D40-3863
Year: 1943
Notions: snaps
Hours to complete: 5
First worn: June 2012
Total cost: $15

This dress was pretty crazy to make just because I had to do 4 separate FBAs because each layer of the wrap front needed an FBA on each side. It was kind of complicated to figure out but I think it worked out ok.

It was a really fun dress to wear and I think the print looks amazing in these photos.

The other photographer's wife and I took turns being the model so sometimes I got to hold the reflector.

We also went to a hat store down town called Brim. It was super fun trying on hats.

This hat so had my name written all over it!

I also adored this great tilt hat! Alas, both were way out of my budget.

I had such a blast hamming it up for the camera!

  1. Wow love the print on this dress! And your super cute hairstyle! I have short hair (like a pixie cut) and have thought about growing it a bit so I can do different styles - yours looks great the way you've styled it :)

    1. Thanks! You can still do quite a bit of cute things with a pixie. I had a pixie in Oct-Dec of last year and was growing it out in Jan-April of this year. If you are looking for some ideas to try without having to give up your pixie yet, I have some pixie retro styles on my youtube channel:http://www.youtube.com/user/StarspangledHeart and VintageDoris also has some on hers: http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfePGZTJ0Q2dfDzRgjdU3MA

    2. Wow your videos are great! Thanks for directing me to them. I loved the Audrey Hepburn 'Sabrina' one. My hair is shorter than yours was at that time but I think I might be able to recreate what you did with your fringe!

  2. The dress is fab! You look like you had a blast! I LOVE the hat third from the bottom. I might have to check out this store next time I'm up in Dayton.

  3. Love this fabric!! It really is perfect as a staple dress. Think of all the colorful accessories you can pair with it. :) It's so cool you have so many friends who are photographers. My aunt is a photographer, but she lives to far to take these cool photo shoots.

    1. Thanks! I was a bit self conscious in it because it doesn't make my waist look as tiny as 50s dresses do but it was quite fun to wear.
