I turned 26 on Thursday and it was a bit weird looking ahead to being 26. For some silly reason, hitting the "upper twenties" was a bit scary for me. And then it came and went, and nothing bad happened. Ah, the crazy things we do to ourselves!
Instead, I had a great day shopping and relaxing and eating cake by the beach. I always figured that one birthday I'd magically wake up and feel like a well adjusted, responsible adult. That birthday hasn't arrived yet. Instead, I've found that every year I feel more comfortable with myself and less like I have to fit into some sort of box. And that's awesome!
So here are 10 things I love about myself right now at 26.
1. My Nose
I've not always liked my nose but now I think it's kind of cute! And I've also realized that it is part of what makes me look young which will be more and more useful as the birthdays roll around.
2. That I've realized that life isn't a competition
Ok, so some things are a competition but most things in life aren't competitions. We can all be winners! We can all have fun blogs and look cute and have something to say. My success doesn't mean that you can't have the same success. Life is so much happier when we can celebrate each other's successes rather than comparing how far we've each gotten.
3. My Waist
My waist is probably my favorite feature. It's not tiny compared to some people by it's tiny compared to the rest of me. I love accenting my waist. It makes me feel amazing.
4. My Curves
The other side of having a great waist is having great curves. Even though they can make buying ready to wear more difficult, they also make me feel fabulous. No one's body is perfect but knowing how to dress yourself makes it so much easier to love your body.
5. That I'm not afraid of color
There are so many "rules" out there about which colors to wear or not wear based on any number of things-your coloring, the season, your age, what's popular right now. I love the fact that I'm not afraid to embrace color. Color is so much fun!
6. My sewing skills
I love how much my sewing skills have grown. I'm mostly self taught and it's really cool to look at all of the things I know how to do. I'm quite proud of some of the garments I've made especially those from 2014. I've always loved to learn and I'm so glad that not being in school has not kept me from continuing to learn.
7. My complexion
This is another area that's not perfect but any means but I've really come to appreciate my skin. It's easy to compare yourself to fabulous ladies wearing gobs of makeup. Just watch a few taking off makeup videos on youtube and you'll realize that no one has perfect skin. Mine is actually quite nice.
8. My Eyes
Growing up, I always thought brown eyes were the most boring color. But now I really love my eyes. They are very pretty and go so well with my dark hair and fair skin.
9. That I'm not afraid to try new things.
Even crazy decades which shouldn't work for me like the 1920s. I think people miss a lot because they are too scared just to even try. I love that I've gotten braver about trying new things as I've gotten older.
10. That I'm me!
I am kind of crazy and weird and odd. I've yet to meet anybody quite like me. And I'm ok with that. I love fantasy novels and tragic musicals and taking walks and wearing different clothes. My favorite tv show is The Office and my favorite food is pickles. I loath competitive team sports and I don't care for ice cream. I'm a fashion blogger who wears almost exactly the same makeup everyday and only wear the same 3 or 4 pieces of jewelry 95% of the time. I can be very witty when I feel like it and wine makes me hiccup. I love doing crazy dance moves in the car. And I can never make up my mind about which decade I love to wear most.
So that's what I love about myself! I encourage you to list 10 things you love about yourself. Either share on your own blog or leave your list in the comments. Because, guess what? You are awesome too!
It's so nice to hear what people like about themselves! I think more people should be happy with who they are. Nobody's perfect but we all have good things about us, thank you for sharing your list! I would include my eyes, my smile, my individuality.

I am 39 and still waiting for that magical day that I wake up in the morning and feel like a 'grown-up'. I have asked my mom over and over, when is this supposed to happen. Her answer, every time is "I'll let you know when it happens." What a lovely list and it is so wonderful to grow and feel more and more confident in our own uniqueness. It wasn't until I was in my early 30's that I really started to feel comfortable AND confident in my own skin. I'm glad to see you are ahead of the game. Happy Birthday!!

This is such an awesome, encouraging post! I love that you love these things about yourself and that you were to keen to speak publicly about them. It's so easy, especially online where we constantly compare ourselves with others, to just bash ourselves and our perceived faults. That is neither healthy nor constructive, but this post is and I really hope that it inspires others to follow suit and post about some of the things they also adore about themselves.
ReplyDeleteHave an amazing 26th year of life, dear lady!

Happy birthday Stephanie!
ReplyDeleteThis post really awesome. It's really inspiring to hear about how other women feel comfortable in their own skin. It's really not a lot you see of ~ mostly there's all this rhetoric about "embracing your flaws" which seem to say to me - "hey! You have flaws! Find out what they are and learn to be okay with them." Why not simply focus on the positive things you like about yourself instead?
Anyway, it's great to see you doing that, so thanks for sharing. :) ❤
