A Blackberry Fix

I picked up some lovely purple corduroy on sale for $4/yd. The color is appropriately called blackberry. I snagged 3 1/3 yds but now I'm kind of at a loss of what to do with it. I really want to sew with it right away because I can't wait to wear it and it even fits in my winter color palette.

A 1940s style fitted jacket.

Another Beignet.

Another rendition of this 1940s dress.

I've also been pondering trying to use it for this 1930s pattern. I don't have enough for both the skirt and the cape unless I shorten the cape quite a bit. I do have enough for the top and the cape lining but I'm not sure how that would look.

Which idea do you like? If this was in your stash, what would you make?

  1. For me- I'd make the trousers LOL in the simplicity retro pattern. But that is because I really need trousers!
Since that is not one of your choices.... hmm. I think the beignet. I have seen it in cord, and it looks really nice!

  2. The corduroy Beignet skirts I've seen have all looked really great, so that would be my first choice. I think it would be awesome to have a purple jacket, too, so either would be great!

What kind of buttons would you use? Some that blend in or a color that really pops?

  3. Corduroy is kinda a tricky fabric for me. On the one hand, I LOOOOVE it! It's so warm and cuddly. On the other, it reminds me of a series of jumper-type dresses I had as a kid, and as such, tends to often look dowdy to me on adults.

I'd actually put my vote in for the cape. I think that if you lined it with a lush satiny fabric in a complementary color, it'd be fabulous. I also think you could shorten it just a touch to keep it from looking "Halloween" witch" and possibly keep the vintage feel whilst going a touch modern.
