Make Many Dickeys...a Vintage Pattern

Hello Star Spangled Readers!  My name is Angie and I blog over at Quality Time. I was so excited when the very sweet Stephanie asked me to guest post for her here on her blog.  I love her videos so much!  And if it wasn't for her Downton Abby sewalong, I might have never caught the show!

I've been poring over my recent purchases of vintage sewing and pattern magazines looking for the perfect thing to scan and share with you all here. My own blog is more miscellaneous sewing adventures than vintage clothing adventures, but I do like to combine the two when I can.

This pattern I'm sharing is from a dressmaking booklet from the 1940s.  Some of the pages were missing, but luckily not this cute article about wearing a "dickey", or a "faux" shirt.  (Basically, a dickey is a partial bodice but usually a full collar, to wear under sweaters, cardigans or other garments).

And here are full-size scans of the pattern!  Note how cute and wearable that little peter pan collar is too. My Best Pincurl Set Yet!

Sunday night, I pin-curled my hair using the diagrams from Lisa Freemont Street's 'Laura' hair tutorial. I was quite amazed when, Monday morning, I didn't have my usual mess of curls, but a super cute style! And I lucked out that it was the first day I've had in a long time that was below 98% humidity so it stayed in!



My bangs even cooperated and did cute little curls that (with a bit of hair putty) stayed in all day too! I got lots of complements on it at work, which made me super happy! See the original tutorial for the youtube video and pin-curl diagram.



I have learned that pin-curls work out much better when I use product and follow a diagram. It also takes a lot of practice. This is the first set that I ever felt comfortable wearing down and not pulled back. So, if you, like me, are working on perfecting vintage hair, try try again!

The Pink Blouse

My current wardrobe contains depressingly few actual vintage pieces. (I'm working on that.) So, I mix vintage with modern and vintage inspired pieces. Here is a cute little romantic ensemble I wore today. Please excuse the crappy quality of the pics as I was the model and photographer. I need to get a remote or something for my camera.

Finding the Fourties

I have always loved dressing up and being a girly girl, but I always felt like something was missing. I never quite pulled off the in style. Not too long ago, I discovered the fourties. There, I found a sense of elegance, femininity and modesty that was lacking in modern fashion.



I loved the fashion, the culture and the lifestyle. Then I found others like me who had a love affair with another decade. And so I began learning all I could.
