Christmas Dress Conundrum

I made a Christmas dress way back in 2010 from Colette Pattern's Crepe dress but I'm dying to make something new to wear for this holiday season.

It's cute and still fits but I'd like to have more than one dress for all of my holiday events.

I snagged this red fabric with black velvet polka dots for 50% off clearance price at JoAnn's and it'd be great for the holidays with some green accessories.

My initial thought was for a circle skirt. It's not super fancy but I know it'd get loads of wear in my wardrobe.

But then I remembered that I had this great pattern from 1951 that I almost made for Promaballoona/Costume College 2012. It's not exactly the most practical for winter but here in Ohio it doesn't get that cold in December (plus that's what coats are for.

So I need your help deciding. Circle skirt? Or dress?

  1. Oooo, polka dots. I think I'm addicted to them. :) I say go for it.

  2. I live polka dots as well. I like the dress patterns!

  3. My vote is for the skirt - I think it would be easier to wear that past the holiday season and work it into your regular wardrobe. But either one will be cute!

  4. I say the skirt- you could dress it up with a nice blouse or rock it with a fun sweater- more versatile *and* quicker & easier when you are holiday busy.

  5. Either would be wonderful in this fabulous dotted fabric, but I'm going to have to veer more towards a dress. Perhaps with a matching (or complimentary, say in a solid hue) shrug to help make it easier to wear during these nippy winter months.

  6. I know that skirt will be easiest to made and to be worn again after Xmas, but I vote for the dress, I like the bust and those bows are gorgeous. Why not use white and green velvet ribbons for bow and belt and after holidays season, you can replace it for black velvet... perfect valentine dress!!!!

  7. When I saw the fabric, I immediately (and I mean imMEDiately) envisioned a CiRcLe SkIrT - or more specifically a dress with a Circle Skirt. And if I may be so bold as to suggest - a black belt or sash at the waist (patent leather? and matching bag and shoes?) and some sort of white organdy froth somewhere at the neckline....double layer collar or a ruffle - what are they called when they are cut on a curve and not actually gathered. Don't mind me... I'm just daydreaming onto my keyboard....
